Making history come to life!

Having recently watched two different movies about Ike, I was anxious to learn more about Kay Summersby. This book gave me a view about Ike that I never knew. Of course I knew about the famous "General Eisenhower", and "President Eisenhower". But I never read anything about "the man" that was Dwight David Eisenhower. This book gave me that story. It is a wonderfully touching story about love and war. I highly recommend it!

PAST FORGETTING

I WAS SO HAPPY TO FIND THIS BOOK! After all these years, we finally get the truth from a dying lover of D. Eisenhower. A wonderful book. You will learn so much about what goes on inside a war. The loniless and horror of people not knowing if they will live thru the day. It is quite understanding how one would reach out for comfort from another human being. I found the book sweet and totally believable as it was written before she passed away. She waited until after the death of Pres. Eisenhower. Quite admirable.
I learned a lot about him that one would never know, otherwise. If you love history as I do, I am sure you will enjoy this book. Highly recommended!

An exceptionally great read

“99% of bikers obey the law. The other 1% make their own” - that’s how the blurb for this book starts. Having read and thoroughly enjoyed this book, I’d add that perhaps only one percent of authors write exceptionally enthralling books - and this is certainly a one percenter for me.

Tienne Desrochers spent the first eighteen years of her life growing up in the world of the Noir et Bleu bikers - until her Dad, a leader of the gang, was murdered. Not wanting to end up like her junkie mother, she grabs her sixteen year old brother, Cooper, and moves to live with her childless but very affluent Aunt Elizabeth and Uncle Blaine, leaving behind Aiden, her biker boyfriend and love. She tries desperately to fit in with her new life style but designer dresses and shoes, membership of the country club and the like are definitely totally different to what she’s used to! She’s determined to fit in, however, if only for the sake of Cooper, but this life isn’t easy for someone who is more at home in a biker gang. She meets Leland, who fits in with her new life style - rich, a member of the country club set, handsome and he seems to really like her. Should she trust Leland with her heart or does it still belong to Aiden? Can she really leave her past behind completely?

This book has hard decision making, people telling lies and not being true about their lives, strong alpha makes, a really feisty female who can kick out at some alpha males, murder, drug dealing, hot bikers, heartbreak and true love all packaged in a hard to put down, well written story. It is so well written the author doesn’t rely on steamy sex scenes to entice her readers, instead writing a great story that I really enjoyed and highly recommend. I will certainly look out for other books by this author in future, especially others in this series!

Love this book!

I loved this book, and I especially love DR Graham's style of writing. Her books are not fluffy romances, but rather complicated, heart-wrenching journeys into the not-so-obvious sides of love. One Percenter is about a strong well-drawn female character, Tienne, who is trying her best to make the move from the wrong side of the tracks to the right side. But it is not easy, to say the least, and if she didn't care so much for her brother, Cooper, I don't know if she could have stuck with it so long.

I especially love characters who are motivated by a sibling, and Tienne and Cooper's relationship grabbed at my heart probably as much or more than the romance in this book. With such well-drawn, complicated family dynamics, I was taken into the underbelly of a brand new world that I otherwise never would have experienced.

For YA and NA fans of complicated, not-easy-to-solve romances, this is a book (and an author) not to be missed!

I enjoyed this book. One percenter MC's don't make sense to me. I understand that the club comes first, but isn't family part of the club. This book focuses on the main characters, Aiden and Tienne. They have know each other since they we kids growing up as part of the MC. Tienne wants a better life and goes to life with her Uncle and Aunt, and takes her younger brother with her.Life is supposed to be better there.
One warning with this book - Have the tissues ready.

In recent years, social historians have examined the lives of ordinary people by focusing on the experiences of individuals. The most popular example of this "microhistory," Natalie Zemon Davis's The Return of Martin Guerre, was later put on celluloid. Corbin (The Foul and the Fragrant) pushes the envelope by writing the "biography" of Louis-Fran‡ois Pinagot a forester and clog maker whose life spanned much of the 19th century. There are scarcely any documents about him, and the resulting limitations lead to generalizations (e.g., Pinagot likely drank because "clog makers liked to gather in taverns") that, while understandable, may frustrate some readers. Yet by relying on his abundant historical knowledge and his equally expansive imagination, Corbin, a professor at the Sorbonne, is able to conjure up Pinagot's world. He first traces the difficult daily existence of the oft-impoverished Pinagot, his family and his milieu. Then Corbin deftly shows how Pinagot likely experienced the major political events of his time, including the restoration of the monarchy and the two invasions by Prussia. Increased democratization is a major theme: by the end of his difficult life, the likely illiterate Pinagot was able to vote, and he lived to see his son run for local office. While some readers may find that the volume assumes too much knowledge of French history, Corbin has achieved a scholarly triumph.

Highly recommend if you want to get serious about Javascript

This is a great book for anyone that wants to start getting serious about javascript. If you're just going to copy and paste a couple jquery plugins, this might not be for you, but if you want to be a true Javascript artist, this is the entry point. This is the first book in the "You don't know Javascript" series. I would recommend not skipping this intro into the series, it lays the framework for your entire future as a Javascript artist. From variables to closures. Even if you have some experience, this edition will probably teach you a thing or two and get you ready to deep dive into serious scripting.

Great Intro Book to Javascript

Definitely a beginner or intro book. I read through the whole thing in a little over an hour, a testament of being easy to follow but also being extremely short. One thing I didn't like (as others have mentioned) was the continual shout-outs to the other books in the series. If the author's goal was to whet the taste buds of the reader and tempt them into buying the rest of the series, he's certainly committed. Granted, even from the title of this book it is clear it was made to be entry-level reading material. The author did make me chuckle in the Preface with a clear call-out to another well known JavaScript book implying that even the title was degrading to the power and perception of the language.

For beginners or people new to JavaScript, I would recommend it. It covers all the necessities to get someone "Up & Going" for lack of better words. For those with knowledge in other languages, the author does highlight a couple key aspects of JavaScript such as closures that might help lay the basis for further reading. If you have any measurable experience with the language, most of this book will just be a review.

Overall, I bought this book for $4.99. For less than the cost of a fast food meal, there's plenty of knowledge written in an inviting manner that should be easy for a beginner to follow along and learn with.

Excellent introduction to the rest of the series.

This is the first book in a series by Kyle Simpson about JavaScript. As an avid reader of technical books and programming language enthusiast, I can say without a doubt that this series is an instant classic for JavaScript. Mr. Simpson's writing is extremely accessible and quite humorous. I have been dabbling with JavaScript as a language that was necessary to make a web UI work for a great many years. However, it is obvious to the well-connected programmer that JavaScript has grown well past it's status as "glue" between the DOM and more reliable backend languages.

This book in-particular lays the ground-work for understanding JS syntax, a clear necessity for anyone wishing to master the language. But the real value in this book is Mr. Simpson's enthusiasm for the language itself--not as a quirky language that we should be ashamed of, but instead a beautiful and powerful language that will continue to grow and thrive.

I highly recommend this book, and indeed the entire series, if you wish to deeply understand and eventually master JavaScript.

About the Author
Although only 23, Dominic enjoys enviable success in both television and as a member of the Magic Circle. He first appeared on television in 1996 presenting CBBC's popular, live comedy series Friday Zone. After this he was asked to present the highly acclaimed CBBC Broom Cupboard until 1998 when he secured his own series on CBBC called Animal Magic. Dominic has also presented Jungle Run on CITV and made guest appearances on several programmes including Live & Kicking, Here and Now, Blue Peter, Newsround, Scoop and Record Breakers.
