Montana Wildfire Review

Amanda Lennox, blond, green eyed and intelligent, at least she thought she was intelligent until she lied to get this job of bringing Roger Thorton Bannister III home. The little monster was making the already rough trip through the western countryside unbearable. Amanda has always prided herself on her even temper but now, struck in the river, with the spoiled Roger splashing her and demanding lunch, Amanda is ready to blow. Even Roger realizes that perhaps he's pushed her too far and goes rushing off into the forest to find someone to help Amanda.

To Amanda's surprise and relief, Roger comes back with a man. But after just a few minutes with this man, Amanda's wondering if maybe being trapped in the river wasn't better than having to put up with this man.

Jacob Blackhawk Chandler is no one's idea of a hero, including himself. A half breed Indian with a chip the size of the Rockies on his shoulder, Jake doesn't want to get involved with Amanda and Roger but since there is no one else around to get Amanda out of the hole she's in he steps up.

Getting out of the river requires a lot more body contact then Amanda was prepared for. She's thankful that Jake was there to help but is uneasy with the new thoughts crowding her head. She just wants to get back on the trail and get Roger home.

Ready to leave Amanda and Roger to find their way through the country side is fine with him until Roger comes up missing. Amanda turns again to him for help and against his better judgement, Jake agrees to help find Roger.

As Amanda and Jake trek through the countryside on Roger's trail, they find themselves drawn to each other. But what kind of life can a angry half breed offer a proper Bostonian white woman specially in a country where Indians and white people don't mix, and being caught together can cause death?

I really enjoyed this novel. With wonderful commentary on the western countryside, the tiny towns and the relationships between people of different races this was a very readable novel. The characters are well rounded, with some flaws which helps to make them believable. The story clips along at a steady pace.

After her father's sudden death, lovely strong-willed Amanda Lenox had no money for the long trip from Boston where she attended Miss Henry's Academy for Young Ladies to her inherited ranch in Seattle. When she saw an advertisement for a "wilderness expert" for an escort to Pony, Montana, she immediately applied. She soon discovered the escorted will be the wealthy eleven-year-old brat, Roger Bannister III. Having no wilderness experience or sense of direction what so ever, the two became lost in the wild beauty of Idaho where she severely sprained her ankle. Thankfully, ruggedly handsome half-breed Crow Indian, Jacob Blackhawk Chandler, rescues Amanda. Witty barbs as well as sexual sparks immediately started to fly between them! All of a sudden Roger deathly screams and he mysteriously disappears deep within the woods. Jacob agrees to help Amanda locate him and escort them to Montana for a ridiculously excessive fee.
While Amanda and Jacob are searching for Roger and his kidnappers, Amanda slowly acknowledges her growing desire for Jacob. Jacob, carrying severe emotional and physical scars as well as suffering from life-long racial prejudice, is having a hard time denying his smoldering attraction for her. He feels no respectable white women would ever consider loving a "breed" and Jacob will not subject the beautiful Amanda to a tortured life that would bring, despite Amanda's words of complete love and devotion. Through many trials and tribulations they finally succumb to their sensual cravings...and upon the kidnappers.
After the life-and-death rescue skirmish, Roger is returned to his father and Amanda pays Jacob his well-earned fee and they go their separate ways. Amanda sadly realizes Jacob is permanently out of her life and that she must somehow make it to Seattle and try to begin anew. Jacob now knows he cannot live without his precious Amanda and sets out to find her and profess his undying love despite having devastatingly rejected her. He realizes he must face his fear that she may now feel that loving a "breed" might not be worth the lifelong pain of discrimination regardless of their untamed passion.
What a book! It was the best $.99 I spent in a long time! It's full of explicit sensual desire and heart pumping adventure that will definitely provoke your emotions.
I highly recommend this book!

Love, suspense, drama

Montana Wildfire is written for the reader who loves the period before the West was really tamed, when Indians were looked upon as savages, and a half-breed could expect a life of misery. The story is well written and the characters deeply developed. Rebecca Sinclair is a wonderful writer and knows how to weave a story that grabs a reader and doesn't let go until the last page of the book.

The words, the smells, the sights, and the sounds leap off of the page and leave you gasping either for a fresh breath of air or at an astounding view of the mountains.

I am a great fan of this particular era and have read hundreds of books from different authors. The story was authentic and enjoyable. It had love, drama, suspense, murder, and did I mention love (sighing here). There were no noticeable grammatical errors in the book and in my opinion, well written and edited.

I am giving Montana Wildfire five stars because it meets all of the criteria I look for in a great book - original story, character development, grammar, and conflict resolution. Montana Wildfire is a definite must read, and Rebecca Sinclair is an author you should add to your list of favorites.

A complete GED prep book that will help you succeed

The Steck-Vaughn complete GED preparation is a complete 5 topic study guide for passing the GED.

You start out using this book by taking a self timed practice test for each subject. (You can do all 5 at once, or 1 at a time.)

You then "grade" your practice test with the answer sheet provided at the back of the book.

When you are done "grading" your practice test there is an analysis sheet for each subject that shows you what lessons you need to study based on your correct/incorrect answers.

At the end of each lesson, there are practice tests based on the specific lesson learned.

After you have reviewed all lessons in all 5 subjects you need to, there is a final GED practice test in the back of the book.

One of the great things about this book is they give explanations for all the correct answers and why one answer is more correct than another.

If you don't have "basic" reading and writing skills, you will struggle trying to use this book. I think anyone with a 6th grade reading level should be fine.

As for the GED itself:
If you can read, write & comprehend - you will pass.

Social Studies and Science are just reading comprehension. All the information you need to answer all of the questions in these subjects are in the tests. You are given paragraphs to read, you then extract the information to the questions they are asking from the paragraphs you read.

Language Arts: Reading & Writing is about sentence structure, punctuation, mechanics & organization. As long as you use complete sentences and have clear ideas on your writing essay, you will pass. (Spelling does not matter as much as you would think on the writing portion of the test.)

Mathematics is the hardest subject for me, I fear math because I never learned it but fret not. You are given a "cheat sheet" when you take the math portion of the GED, this "cheat sheet" consists of mathematical formulas -- that's right -- you don't need to memorize the mathematical formulas, you just need to know how to use the formula to solve the problem. As I stated before, if you can read and comprehend you won't have a problem using this book to learn how to solve the problems using a specific formula. Oh did I mention you can use a calculator on the first part of the math test? Yes, sorry I forgot to mention that there are two parts to the math test. The first part of the GED math test is multiple choice and you can use a calculator, multiple choice questions make up 80% of the test, while 20% are open questions.

P.S. The GED is going to go through a complete overhaul beginning in 2014. Rumor has it there are going to be two GED tests. The first GED test for those who want a GED for employment purposes which will be similar to the current GED. The second GED test is for those who want continuing education, this test will be different as it will be more comprehensive and incorporate community college admission placement tests to better the education of GED entrance to the college level.

Complete Ged Preparation
I have been using this text to tutor adults in free GED classes for over a year. I like the format, clear and concise explainations,and the neat way study and skill tips are introduced in the lessons and at the end of tests. So far no one who has passed the practice tests in this book have failed to receive their GED certificate. I've looked at several other books and I am convinced the Steck-Vaughn products are the best on the market.

Arias well arranged for piano

These opera arias are for the piano, not for accompanying actual singing, of course you can sing-along. They are correctly described as intermediate advanced. There is another book in the series for easy intermediate playing on the same Arias. Looks the same with the same arias but with a green cover. I recommend them both if you are starting on the piano and love opera.

The full title of this book is Opera at the Piano: 74 Favorite Selections from 45 Operas Transcribed for Intermediate to Advanced Piano Solo. The title is quite accurate in that nearly all of the selections included are well known "favorite selections." The book includes transcriptions of instrumental works as well as vocal works -- the Intermezzo from Macagni's CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA, the Waltzes from Strauss' DER ROSENKAVALIER, the Mediation from Massanet's THAIS, and overtures to Rossini's GUILLAUME TELL and Glinka's RUSLAN AND LYUDMILA. None of the well known instrumental music of Wagner is included and his presence in this volume is limited to two selections from TANNHAUSER. Included at the beginning of the book are short paragraph-length synopses of all of the operas represented which would no doubt be helpful to those unfamiliar with all of the operas represented. The transcriptions are pianistic and work well at the keyboard. None of the transcribers are identified. The pieces are of medium to advanced difficulty. These are not transcriptions in the sense of the virtuosic Lisztian operatic transcriptions where Liszt wrote new compositions based on operatic melodies. Instead, these are straightforward faithful piano transcriptions of works originally written for voice and orchestra. It is unlikely that any of these pieces would be included on recital programs. I see the main function of these pieces as giving opera loving pianists hours of pleasure playing through them for him/herself and maybe for friends.

Excellent transcriptions

Unless you are a virtuoso pianist and can handle the Liszt transcriptions of opera, this is a fantastic way to play some of the greatest opera music on solo piano.
I particularly like the "Revenge Song" from "The Magic Flute." These are for intermediate to intermediate-advanced (you can play some Beethoven Sonatas, for example) and deliver a lot of pleasing sound for the effort.

Very Poor Design

My autistic 7 year old loves these types of books and was delighted when he received this last week, yet every time he has picked it up to read one or more pages have fallen out. I thought it may be just him being heavy handed, but when I opened the book to see a double spread page , the same happened to me. Naturally he was distraught that his perfect book that he takes everywhere is falling apart although it is not yet a week old

A Must-Have Resource for Teachers

This book is wonderfully colorful and fascinating, and my fifth graders love it. We use all of the statistics and facts for real-world math. There is everything from decimals to place value covered, but the kids don't mind because it's INTERESTING! This book answers the question, "why do we need to learn math?" Because math is EVERYWHERE and this book proves it. This is also a great resource for learning about technology, geography, history, science, nature...you name it.

There is also a great section on government, and with the upcoming elections we will be using this in class to learn about that, as well. Everything is explained in kid-friendly terms.

I ordered eight books for my class to share, and will be exchanging two because the binding is loose and pages were coming out the first day. However, Amazon makes returns easy so I'm not fussed about it.

Breslaw divides Tituba’s story into two parts. The first focuses on Tituba's roots in Barbados, the second on her life in the New World. The author emphasizes the inextricably linked worlds of the Caribbean and the North American colonies, illustrating how the Puritan worldview was influenced by its perception of possessed Indians. Breslaw argues that Tituba’s confession to practicing witchcraft clearly reveals her savvy and determined efforts to protect herself by actively manipulating Puritan fears. This confession, perceived as evidence of a diabolical conspiracy, was the central agent in the cataclysmic series of events that saw 19 people executed and over 150 imprisoned, including a young girl of 5.

New light shed on dark piece of American history

Unlike most biographies of the time period, Elaine Breslaw does not simply elaborate on the life of a historically significant figure in Tituba: Reluctant Witch of Salem. In this biographical work Breslaw establishes a clear mission to shed light on the life of a vastly misunderstood individual by dismissing common misconceptions and elaborating on accepted fact. Despite the fact that there is a brevity of sound biography on Tituba, Breslaw succeeds in creating a most complete and convicining portrayal of Massachusettes most infamous 17th century witch.

In the section one Breslaw highlights the cultural and national origins of Tituba, focusing primarily on her Arawak roots on the island of Barbados. Described by the author as an "Amerindian slave," Tituba's journey to the new world is laid in a precise and well documented manner through the employment of colonial records. Breslaw asserts her claims in the second chapter as she reasserts that there exists no other reference to any persons of the name Tituba in any colonial record. Next, the author claims that Tituba most likely arrived in Barbados via South America courtesy of the booming slave trading industry just prior to the time that Samuel Parris returned to America. The third chapter of the biography focuses on slave and plantation life in Barbados at the time of Samuel Parris' stay. Breslaw recalls that African-culture had permeated plantation life, supplying Tituba ample opportunity to observe traditional practices of witchcraft. The author however believed that no amount of time could have given the slave girl a strong enough grasp of the traditions she would be later accused of.

The remainder of the biography focuses on Tituba in the context of 17th century Massachusetts. The beginning of the second section places the subject in the larger context of Amerindian slave life in New England. Chapter five highlights Puritan attitudes toward the sacrilegious practice of witchcraft and begins the narrative showing the sequence of events leading up to the pressured confession that secured Tituba's place in history. "Tituba's protective camouflage as a member of a Purtian household was stripped from her, exposing her as an Indian and demanding another means of resisting persecution." (97) The confessions of Tituba are the focus in the final chapters of the book as Breslaw examines how her testimonies were used against her and how they were perceived at the time by the local Puritan population.

Elaine G. Breslaw spent her academic career as a professor of history at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. Following her retirement, Breslaw assumed the position of Visiting Professor of History at the University of Tennessee and also teaches part time at Johns Hopkins University School of Continuing Studies. Breslaw is the author of Dr. Alexander Hamilton and Provincial America: Expanding the Orbit of Scottish Culture, part of the Southern Biography Series, and Tituba, Reluctant Witch of Salem: Devilish Indians and Puritan Fantasies, part of The American Social Experience Series.

Breslaw uses a large amount of varying sources throughout Tituba. Early in the book, the author employs secondary sources pertaining to life in the Caribbean such as The Handbook of South American Indians and The Civilized Life of Barbados: A Social History. In her study of witchcraft in New England, Breslaw cites sources that range from the early 18th century to the 20th century. Written by John Hale in 1702, A Modest Inquiry into the Nature of Witchcraft is consulted as well as 1963's Witchcraft: European and African and 1988's Black Yankees: The Development of an Afro-American Subculture in Eighteenth-Century New England. This biography is as much a study of sociological mechanisms as history, and Breslaw's uses of varying chronological sources, including contemporaries of the time period, add a large amount of credibility to the work.

Tituba remains one of the most misunderstood individuals in American history for a number of reasons. Whatever they may be, there exists a blatant penchant for refusing to recognize plain facts. When studying a phenomenon such as the Salem Witch Trials, there is a tendency to overlook the initial, rational cause of the event and focus on the romance of the situation. If Tituba is made real, if she is revealed for who, not what, she really was, then the fantastic possibility of the event disappears before it even has the chance to develop in the psyche of the researcher. Time and again historic events are sensationalized into what become dramatic interpretations of simple aspect of human nature. Breslaw uses expert research and years of experience to truly reveal what lies at the heart of the madness that occurred in Puritan New England over three hundred years ago.

Elaine G. Breslaw uses precise historical practice and tenacious research to finally reveal the true background on one of the most overlooked figures in American history. Not only does the author dispel misconceptions in Tituba, but she attracts new curiosities and opens up a larger field of research introducing the subject for who she truly was which is, unquestionably, far more interesting.

an *interesting* historical text

This text retells the story we think we know about Tituba of Salem-- you know, the black slave woman who got all that trouble started with her voodoo-esque witchery... this book traces the historical evidence for Tituba actually being a Native American, and the path she would have taken to get to Salem at the time, as well as the story of what happened after she was swept up in the drama of the Puritans' search for the devil in the New World. It's a well-written historical account that is academic, but not so academic that those who are studying this period for fun will be alienated.

I need a Magic Grinder

This book was originally published in 1975 as part of the "Disney's Wonderful WOrld of Reading" collection. I remember my mother reading this book aloud to me when I was a child. The story touches upon themes of greed, poverty, violence towards women, and the Disney staple - all your problems can be solved with magic! I say this laughingly, for I really remember this book fondly and share it with my kids (8, 6, 4, and 2). I usually add commentary about how it's important to be kind, to willingly share with others, and how our problems aren't fixed by magic but by dealing with the issues.

***Spoiler alert***

The story begins with Minnie and her two nephews Morty and Ferdie working in the garden of the greedy Lord Gurr. Lord Gurr has plenty but refuses to pay Minnie while Minnie and her nephews go without food. On her way home after unsuccessfully begging food from Lord Gurr, Minnie passes a cave and hears someone call out for help. Inside is a dragon trapped by fallen rocks. Afraid at first, Minnie helps him out, and he rewards her with a magic grinder. Using the magic words while turning the grinder's handle gets you whatever you ask for/need. Minnie is sent on her way, and upon arriving home and using the grinder, Minnie and her nephews are fed, clothed, and made comfortable. When they don't show up at Lord Gurr's the next day, he heads to their house to investigate. Convinced they stole all of their new possessions, Lord Gurr threatens to call the sherrif then steals the magic grinder from Minnie (lovely double standard). Lord Gurr coaxes the secret of activating the grinder from the nephews and very soon is rewarded with more ice cream than he can eat. Unfortunately, he didn't take the time to learn how to stop the grinder, and ice cream begins to fill his house. Lord Gurr races back to Minnie's house and throws the magic grinder at her promising never to bother her again if she will make it stop. The story ends "happily ever after" with Minnie stopping the grinder and Lord Gurr returing to clean his house of the ice cream mess. Minnie and her nephews live a life of ease never working for Lord Gurr again.

While a book with these themes written today may not pass muster, the nostalgia I feel when re-reading this book is enough reason to hold on to a copy.

Magic Grinder, help me please

When we were little, my sister and I LOVED this book. It's got dragons, magic, a mean Lord Gurr, and poor Minnie and her nephews. What's not to like? The illustrations are very colorful, too.
This Christmas, I found a vintage copy of this book and gave it to my sister as a gift. She read it aloud, and it's as good today as it always was. Morals: don't be greedy; if you help people, you will be rewarded.

Prior to that, he worked as a consultant for the FBI Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Center, where he was responsible for handling mobile device forensics on media associated with improvised explosive devices. Great Primer for Android OS

The book provides a great primer for Android and takes into account that different companies will change it to fit their needs. I like that the author has broken it down to the nuts and bolts for what would be consistent in all Android OS and discusses open source resources to extract, analyze, review, and report (and understands there are commercially available products that do the same). What I appreciate is that it helps me understand what the commercial product is doing at some point in the extraction. Worth the read. I like physical books (I like to mark things).

This book is packed with so much information simply reading it twice isn't enough, you'll need to make a few pots of coffee in order to digest all the information made available in this book. Rohit takes a unique approach to organizing and presenting material in this book, while the humor lacks in the book it is technically sound and straight forward. Few books have amazed me, and I've probably reviewed 100 books by now, this one has left a mark on my brain that will last for the remainder of my life. Now, that is certainly a bold claim and I certify this book is well worth such a claim. While I would have liked to seen some work on fingerprint passwords that was simply not covered in the book, but you'll be happy to know that swipe patterns are covered which are still in wide use today.

From the setup of the environment required to do the forensic work, theory behind the work involved, and then applying it in real world examples make this book worth the cost. My favorite part about this book would have to be the use of JTAG to recover data from damaged devices, and why you should smash your phone into a billion pieces if you have something to hide of great importance. This book is an eye opener and should be read by anyone who is paranoid about their security, and probably why you should or shouldn't root your Android device. The author answers everything clearly and concise with litter room for misunderstanding the message behind the learning activity. The frozen device was actually really intriguing, at a certain temperature the memory contained data longer and allowed data extraction, simply brilliant if I do say so myself.

Recovering delete files, application data, and the many methods to do so are covered. I've looked over this book a few dozen times already and still shake my head at the various recovery options available despite the 'security' appliances allowed on the device and how easily they're bypassed. So in short, don't do anything that you'd have to hide or you'll be pretty shocked when they uncover the deleted data you thought was gone forever!
