The Author took me back in time
By Love2Review
There were many aspects to this book that I loved. I love that Celeste was a bad girl with a good heart. I loved that the hero was a boxer who was strong yet sensitive. The author got so much goodness in this quick, but delicious read. The time period was a character in this book. The way she described the settings and the slang of the times just made me feel like I was there. I was rooting for these characters. Even the bad guys were interesting. There are so few good interracial romance books out now and this was such a good surprise. I also enjoyed that the author didn't ignore the segregation and racism of the time and showed both the rich and poor aspects of the time. So much happened in this book that after reading it, I thought it was longer than it really was. My only problem is I wish it was longer and we got to see them years into the future. If you love interracial romance historical stories, I recommend this.

Do not let the positive reviews fool you
By F. Jenkins
This book has a simplistic plot but yet the author found numerous ways to mess it up. From the ridiculous jumps in location and time, characters and scenarios that come in and out like musical chairs and the trite unbelievable ending that actually ends with "The End", it's all a bad idea.
The characters do not have any true connection other than the fact they want to tear each other's clothes off with just one look at the other. There is insufficient backstory on the male protagonist which the author tries to make up for by cramming his story into the tail end of one chapter. The writing style flits from the 30s era vernacular to modern day phrasing on every other page.
I'm mad at myself for finishing the book hoping that it would get better. I want my $3.99 and the wasted time I spent reading this wack book back.

Enjoyable! Could have been a five.
By Heat10
This book is set in the late 1930's and Celeste is a dancer and Shane is a prize fighter. Shane and Celeste meet for the first time at her fathers funeral. Her father was raver end and a horrible parent, which severed her relationship with him at a young age.
At first sight they are attracted to each other and the attraction is powerful; however, they have a problem. Race, alcohol and deception taint their joining. He's white and she's black. She has a not so great past with men and she loves the sauce.
They overcome their differences and try to make it work, but Shane's past threatens to destroy their future.
Pros:
Shane is sexy and likable.
He's an alpha male.
A little bit of a jealous lover is always exciting.
Not hard to follow.
Believable story line.
Doesn't skirt away from race issues in the late 1930's.
The love scenes are hot.
In the beginning Celeste made excuses to drink and it showed she was vulnerable, but also a bit ridiculous with her actions. I liked that because this is the true behavior of an alcoholic.
I enjoyed that she left alcohol behind and decided to take control of her life. Great story within the story.
Cons:
Grammar! Hire an editor. As a fan its disappointing, but the price makes you forgive the mistakes.
The formatting is a bit off in some parts of the book, which probably occurred when it was uploaded by the author to Amazon.
Whatever happened to her cousin. She was a major part of the book and then she disappeared.
Honestly, if it wasn't for the format issues and the grammar this book could have been a solid 4 or 5. After a while the mistakes were distracting. In one section similar paragraphs were repeated. I read it three times and was confused.
